Dr. Frank C. Jones

As Acting Associate Chief, Laboratory for High Energy Astrophysics, Dr. Jones participates jointly with the Laboratory Chief in the planning, coordinating, technical direction and administrative management of the research and development activities undertaken and carried out by the Laboratory for High Energy Astrophysics' staff. Working with the Laboratory Chief, he assists in providing the policy development and implementing action designed to guide the staff in the conduct of flight programs, supporting research and technology and related experimental research in high energy astrophysics. In the absence of the Chief, he/she assumes full responsibility for continuity and direction of the Laboratory for High Energy Astrophysics' efforts. Prior to this Dr. Jones was a Senior Scientist in the Laboratory and served as Head of the High Energy Astrophysics Theory Office of the laboratory. He first came to Goddard Space Flight Center in 1963 as a NRC Resident Research Associate and became a Civil Servant in 1965 in the Theoretical Division. He has been employed by Goddard ever since.

Dr. Jones has also been a visiting scientist at the Max Planck Institute for Nuclear Physics in Heidelberg, Germany and was an Instructor in Physics at Princeton University. He has served as an officer of the Astrophysics Division of the American Physical Society and as a member of the American Physical Society Council. Dr. Jones is a Fellow of the American Physical Society and of the American Association for the Advancement of Science.

Dr. Jones received a BA in Physics from the Rice Institute (now Rice University) and a MA and PhD in Physics from the University of Chicago.
