Therese A. Kucera
Astrophysicist

Dr. Therese Kucera is a solar physicist and has been working at Goddard
Space Flight Center since 1993, first as a National Research Council
Post Research Associate, then as a contractor, and starting in 2001, as
a civil servant. She is the US Deputy Project Scientist for the Solar
and Heliospheric Observatory (SOHO) spacecraft as well as a member of
the science operation teams of two of UV spectrometers onboard SOHO,
Coronal Diagnostic Spectrometer (CDS) and Solar Ultraviolet
Measurements of Emitted Radiation (SUMER). She was on the team of the
Spartan 201 White Light Coronagraph, which last flew in 1998. She uses
these and other instruments to study various facets of the solar
atmosphere, including solar prominences, flares, and active regions.
She is the project scientist for the Living With a Star Data
Environment, and is active in education and outreach.
Dr. Kucera is originally from Evanston, IL. She received a bachelor
degree in Physics from Carleton College in 1987, and a PhD in
Astrophysical, Planetary, and Astrophysical Sciences from the
University of Colorado, Boulder in 1993.
