Haydée Maldonado received her Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Puerto Rico in 1986. She also completed her Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering from Johns Hopkins University in 1992.

She started her engineering career working on radar systems for the Navy in Riverside, California. She worked as a radar systems analyst for the Aegis combat system fleet. In 1988, she transferred to Goddard where she has been for 18 years. Ms. Maldonado started at Goddard in the Microwave Technology Branch, Code 730. As Radio Frequency lead engineer, she has supported multiple missions including PEGSAT, SAMPEX, FAST, and RXTE, among others. Ms. Maldonado joined the systems engineering division in 1995. She worked on the Transition Region and Coronal Explorer (TRACE) as instrument systems engineer and instrument manager. After TRACE was launched in 1998, she began her work with the Solar Terrestrial Relations Observatory (STEREO) project. She served on STEREO in multiple roles, from instrument manager, to systems engineer, and finally as project manager. Ms. Maldonado was the STEREO Project Manager from 2000-2003. She was responsible for the planning, funding, risk, and technical management of this mission from instruments selection through critical design review.

Haydée Maldonado is currently the formulation manager for the Solar Sentinels and Solar Probe missions, under the Living with a Star (LWS) Program.

She has 20 years of experience in engineering and technical management. She is married and has two sons.
