New Badge Policy at NASA Headquarters

NASA Headquarters (HQ) is implementing a new badge policy, which has implications for NASA civil servants assigned to both NASA HQ and NASA Centers. For civil servants assigned to NASA HQ, a "non-removable" colored decal is being affixed to their badges, the purpose of which is to aid in the positive identification of NASA HQ civil servants during this period of heightened security.

With very few exceptions, the decals will not be issued to civil servants assigned to NASA Centers. The principal impact to civil servants assigned to the Goddard Space Flight Center (GSFC) and other NASA Centers is that, when visiting NASA HQ, most civil servants will be required to stop at the Security Desk to sign in and receive a visitor badge. As long as proper NASA badges are presented to the security officers on duty, there is no requirement for a GSFC civil servant to be escorted during visits. This new policy began Nov. 19 and does not affect GSFC contractor employees because for years they have had to sign in and receive a visitor badge when visiting NASA HQ.
