Volunteers Needed for Nutrition Study

The Beltsville Human Nutrition Research Center is recruiting subjects for a Nutrition Study. Men and women with moderately high cholesterol and normal blood pressure without medication, aged 25-65 years old, will be selected after a medical evaluation and blood and urine screening. Subjects will be asked to complete a nutrition questionnaire and consume test diets foods containing barley. Diet will be controlled for 17 weeks.

All food will be provided by the Center for this period and no other food or beverages will be allowed. Blood and breath samples will be collected weekly and urine will be collected during each of four periods. The study is planned for the Spring of 2002--February-June. Subjects selected for the study will be required to consume breakfast and dinner, Monday-Friday at the Beltsville Human Study Facility. Subjects will be paid $1,000.00 for completing the study. Science Fair Judges Needed

Goddard Education Programs has received a request for volunteers to serve as judges at:

Capitol Heights Elementary School Science Fair, December 5, 2001, at 601 Suffolk Avenue, Capitol Heights, Maryland. The Science Fair committee cordially extends an invitation to you for a continental breakfast, judging time and conversation with student scientists discussing their projects, and lunch. North County High School Science Fair, Glen Burnie, Md., Wednesday, January 16, 2002, from 10:30 am - 2:30 pm. The Judge(s) will assist in the school's program of reviewing/evaluating projects representing a variety of science topics related to research Honors students. Hardware Engineers and Techs Needed

Goddard Education Programs has received a request for hardware engineers and techs to volunteer and assist in replacing RAM SIMMS for upgrading the memory of 179 school library NT servers in Prince George's County Schools. The latest version of the Winnebago Library Automation Program that runs on these servers requires 128 Meg of RAM. The Winnebago Servers currently have only 64 MEG. The replacement memory has been purchased and there is insufficient staffing to do the replacement. The goal is to spread the project among teams and provide for flexibility. Montgomery Area Professionals Needed

Goddard Education Programs has received a request for professional representatives to make presentations to high school freshman in their classrooms about were they want to go in life and how to get there emphasizing the importance of performing well in school, building an impressive transcripts and preparing for the future. The program will be piloted six high schools and are in need of potential speakers from our surrounding area. The Achievement Counts campaign is looking for articulate, energetic people of various cultural, ethnic and educational backgrounds, to help deliver the Achievement Counts message. There will be two half-day training sessions available prior to any visitations. Presentations will be scheduled during the month of October.
