SOHO: Space.com and Comiverse.com featured an article about the discovery of comets with the use of Solar and Heliospheric Observatory (SOHO) spacecraft via the internet. An amateur from China discovered a new comet while watching SOHO real-time images of the Sun on the internet. The article quotes Douglas Biesecker explaining how viewing comets when orbiting near the sun can be done with use of the SOHO spacecraft.
