GSFC Key Personnel Appointments

Diane E. Williams, Director of Management Operations

Ms. Williams was appointed Director of Management Operations, Code 200, in April 2002.

Prior to assuming her present position she held the position of Deputy Director for Business Management, Flight Projects and Projects Directorate (FPPD) from 1995 to 2002; Chief, Engineering Directorate from 1990 to 1995; Associate Chief, Engineering Resources Office from 1982 to 1990; and Financial Manager from 1980 to 1982.

Ms. Williams began her career at GSFC supporting FPPD in June 1966.

John Dalton, Deputy Director of Space Sciences

Dalton was serving as acting Deputy Director of Space Sciences and is a computer scientist with a physics background, and has always had a strong interest in project management and in space information systems for science missions. He began his career in the University of Maryland Space Physics group and in Goddard's Laboratory for High Energy Astrophysics, performing computer simulations of cosmic ray instrument design and developing data processing and analysis software for IMP-7 and -8. He then managed development of image processing systems for Earth science applications, and went on to establish the Data Systems Technology Division and to lead the Earth Science Data and Information System (EOSDIS) Project. As a technology spin-off, he led application of Goddard satellite image processing technology to develop a system for geographic mapping of socio-economic data for the White House.

Dalton is a graduate of George Washington University in 1981 with a Masters in Engineering Administration. In addition, Dalton has a Masters of Science in Computer Science and a Bachelor of Science in Physics from the University of Maryland.

Dalton a NASA Exceptional Service Medal and an GSFC Exceptional Performance Award.
