Anne Arundel County Space Expo

Goddard employees from Greenbelt and Wallops Island judged student projects at the 4th annual Anne Arundel County Space Expo held at the Severn River Middle School in Arnold, Md on May 15. Fourth grade students presented their Space Experiment Module (see http://www.wff.nasa.gov/sem/) projects to Goddard judges and everyone in attendance. The Gifted and Talented office in Anne Arundel County has developed curriculum for students to develop SEM projects as a part of their classroom assignments. There were approximately 450 in attendance, including participation of 23 schools, over 30 student presentations, 15 principals, teachers, and family members. Since May of 2000, Anne Arundel County has flown 8 SEM modules on 5 shuttle flights involving 19 schools. In the past year, the number of schools participating has increased by over 100% and all involved are looking forward to the continuing partnership.
