Goddard, A Great Place to Work

The results are in!!!

Goddard's Center management wants better understanding of how employees feel about the Quality of Work Life (QWL) at Goddard. The Diversity Council hosted a survey in late April asking questions about support services available or services that may be desired by the workforce. The survey served as a tool to capture information and calibrate the overall satisfaction factor of the workforce and communicate what can be improved or deserves further attention. 735 completed surveys were submitted and are statistically significant at the 95% confidence level. The demographics of the respondents closely matched the demographic make-up of Goddard's population. The survey was done electronically and available to civil servants employees.

On May 23, Booz Allen Hamilton (BAH) shared results of the QWL Needs Assessment Survey to the Diversity Council. The good news is the report shows Goddard's QWL program as highly competitive and comprehensive in its offerings and on par with the market in all categories measured such as family friendly benefits, flexible work arrangements, health-related benefits, personal service benefits, professional development and financial benefits. Employees are very satisfied with most of the QWL benefits provided, but as in all cases there are a few areas we can brush up and make improvements. And you can help. Help the center by creating greater awareness of many of the benefits available to its employees.

Respondents to the survey considered the following as the most important QWL benefits: flextime programs, credit union services, health unit, telecommuting program and cafeteria. Employees indicated a desire to see greater emphasis on the awards and recognition programs. Overall, employees are positive about the QWL with an overwhelming 89% indicating that Goddard is a great place to work and 87% agreed or strongly agreed that they would recommend employment with Goddard to others. Special Assistant for Diversity Sharon Wong said, "Surveys such as this serve as a tool to communicate and provide a pulse of employee satisfaction. I am pleased that our employees are positive about the quality of work life at Goddard. Our next step is to take some action based on the overwhelming response rate to this topic." Stay tuned!
