Freedom to Manage

The Freedom to Manage is an initiative of President Bush's Management Agenda to remove barriers to more efficient management, with the expectations of improving accountability and performance. In recognition of the President's effort NASA has formed the Freedom to Manage Task Force to reach our goals of identifying and stimulating change for impediments to effective management.

The committee has successfully:

• Allocated NEX positions to Center
• Delegated Center reorganization approval to Center Directors
• Delegated Center Directors authority to approve awards up to $10K
• Streamlined senior position approvals

Some early successes include:

• Streamlined travel signature requirements
• Any NASA badge accepted at all NASA Centers including Hdqtrs
• Lifting of hiring controls
