The NASA
Goddard Flying Club, Assists With Scholarship of Sending Student
to Oshkosh for 5th Consecutive Year
The winner of
the 2002 Air Academy Scholarship is Ms. Stephanie Nunez. Stephanie
will be entering her senior year at Roosevelt High School in Greenbelt,
Md. The following year she will be attending the Air Academy at
Oshkosh, Wisconsin. All expenses are being paid, through the Scholarship
coordinated by the NASA Goddard Flying Club.
Ms. Nunez's
10-day adventure, from July 26th to August 4th, will offer her an
opportunity to attend the Air Venture Air Show for 2 days and then
launch into an intense dose of aviation education and career awareness
training. She will learn aircraft construction, rebuilding, and
maintenance techniques, such as sheet metal work, fabric covering,
and woodworking, plus piloting training including aircraft preflight,
aerial navigation, weather, aircraft systems, flight training requirements
and an actual orientation flight. Her Air Academy experience will
also include tours of the Experiment Aircraft Association (EAA)
museum and facilities specializing in building, restoration, and
maintenance of aircraft, including the EAA B-17 Bomber, "Aluminum
Overcast."
Ms. Nunez is
a very deserving student who is assisting in the Roosevelt High
School aircraft construction project called Quail, while carrying
a straight "A" average in courses including AP Chemistry,
AP History, Physics, pre-calculus with honors, Spanish and JROTC.
The funding
sources for this year's EAA Air Academy Scholarship are from the
NASA Goddard Flying Club with the Government Employees Welfare Association
(GEWA), the Embry Riddle Aeronautical University (ERAU) National
Capital Area Alumni Chapter, and the EAA Chapters 186, 478, and
646
