Accelerated
Leadership Program (ALP) Will Prepare Talent Pool For Center Future
Leadership
Goddard
Space Flight Center (GSFC) is on the brink of implementing a new
developmental program designed to prepare a talent pool for Center
and Agency upcoming leadership needs. The Accelerated Leadership
Program (ALP) seeks to fill the gap in GSFC's leadership development
programs for individuals who have reached their full performance
level (FPL) in a journey level, non-supervisory position (GS-12
or GS-13), and who are not yet ready or eligible for the majority
of leadership and management development programs available.
The
24-month, ALP program includes connections to Johns Hopkins University
and consists of on-the job and classroom training, cohort sessions,
coaching/mentoring and other developmental experiences. The first
class will consist of 20 students guided by a GSFC Program Manager,
External Advisor/Coach and Class Champion. Participants are given
a one grade level increase in their FPL upon entry into the program
(retention of the FPL is contingent upon program completion). ALP
participants can expect to:
- Develop
core competencies vital for achieving higher levels of performance
and meeting GSFC future challenges;
- Synthesize
learning in a way that accelerates individual and organizational
performance;
- Learn
how to solve complex, multi-layered organizational problems;
- Network
and develop on-going professional relationships with NASA, GSFC
leaders; and
- Learn
strategies to enhance influencing and negotiation skills to improve
individual and organization effectiveness.
To
learn more about ALP components, the application/selection process
and program timeline, interested persons should attend the ALP open
house at Greenbelt, scheduled for Friday, August 9, 2002,
from 10:00am-2:00pm in building 1, room E100D. Wallops
Flight Facility (WFF) employees may attend the ALP briefing to be
held Tuesday, August 13, 2002 at Wallops, from 10:30am-2:30pm
in the MEC. For more information about the ALP open house at
Greenbelt or briefing at Wallops, contact Mark Goldman at 301-286-8852
