New
Center-wide Pager Contract
The Information Services and Advanced Technology Division (Code
290) has established a Center-wide contract for government provided
pager services with Skytel. This contract offers several options
for local and national service, as well as numeric and alpha receivers,
at competitive prices. By utilizing this contract, users will benefit
from more reliable customer service, billing verification, and waived
activation fees.
A Skytel representative will be available on Thursday, August
22, 2002 in Building 12, room C100 to demonstrate the equipment
and answer questions. If you will be using a Skytel pager, or just
interested in the Center-wide contract, stop by between 12 noon
and 2 pm.
Goddard
Professionals Needed for High School Campaign - Goddard Education
Programs has received a request for professional representatives
to make presentations to high School freshman in their classrooms
about were they want to go in life and how to get there emphasizing
the importance of performing well in school, building an impressive
transcript, and preparing for the future. The program will be expanded
to 12 high schools and are in need of more potential speakers from
our surrounding area. The Achievement Counts campaign is looking
for articulate, energetic people of various cultural, ethnic and
educational backgrounds, to help deliver the Achievement Counts
message. There will be a training session available in September
prior to any visitations. Presentations will be scheduled during

CISCO
Networking Academy - Crossland High School - Goddard
Education Programs has received a request for volunteers to serve
as coaches for the Cisco Networking Academy at Crossland High School
in Temple Hills Maryland. Volunteers need not have specialized networking
knowledge. The focus of this program will be the sharing of interpersonal
and workplace communication skills young people will need to be
successful in their future work. A half-day training session for
volunteer coaches is planned on August 21 at Crossland High School.
The program will begin in September 2002, with lessons provided
online to assist the four coaches needed in their work with the
students. Each team will work with a morning class made up of juniors
and seniors taking networking classes. Team members will work with
the students once or twice a month in sessions that last for an
hour and a quarter. If you are interested or have additional questions,

Viewing
a Launch from the Causeway - In
light of the events, which occurred on September 11, 2001, NASA
Headquarters has established new security procedures for nominating
and inviting NASA guests to view a Space Shuttle launch. Enhanced
security measures at Kennedy for screening visitors and vehicles
during Space Shuttle operations are now into effect.
As part of ensuring
a safe environment for viewing shuttle launches, access to the causeway
is prohibited. Causeway passes are not available to each
Center for employee viewing as they were in the past. Launch transportation
tickets to view a launch can be purchased from the Kennedy Visitor
