Windows 2000
Is the NASA Standard
The NASA CIO
has approved Windows 2000 as the standard for Microsoft operating
systems for the Agency. All GSFC computers not currently meeting
this standard must be complied by December 31, 2002. Macintosh
and Unix users are not affected. While it is the system owners'
responsibility to ensure this standard is met, a process and a schedule
for all ODIN seats have been developed.
The process
begins with a pre-assessment when an ODIN technician will meet with
the computer user to determine the hardware requirements. Approximately
one week later, the technician will pick up the computer, taking
it to the on-site ODIN lab to perform the upgrade. The computer
is returned to the user in approximately 5 hours. The user must
be available to the technician for the pre-assessment and when the
computer is returned. This is imperative to meeting the schedule.
ODIN is meeting
with GSFC representatives to explain the process and introduce the
schedule. Individuals will be contacted prior to their pre-assessment
meetings. To learn more about the Windows 2000 upgrade at Goddard,
