Great Balls of Fire
Images from the MODIS rapid response team and Landsat-7 were used in a major satellite media tour conducted with University of Maryland professor Dr. Chris Justice and Headquarters Natural Hazards Project Manager Dr. Tim Gubbels. Together they conducted more than 25 interviews with cable and local news outlets including, CONUS All News Affiliates, KABC Los Angeles, KRON San Francisco, KMAQ Chicago, WCAU Philadelphia, WTTG Washington and KXAS Dallas. Accompanying the interviews was a 17-minute video that was rendered by the Scientific Visualization Studio. There was an estimated audience of more than 10 million viewers.

Additionally, Time magazine used a picture from the MODIS land cover campaign in a cover story on the upcoming Global Sustainability Conference
