Roadmap
to a Balanced Life Workshop
What:
This workshop will provide you with a roadmap to achieving work/life
balance. This interactive seminar will help you define your work/life
balance on a daily basis and show you strategies to get around barriers
and to handle detours. Techniques for refueling and recharging your
batteries while you juggle the demands of your job and personal
life will be offered as well. Participants will:
* Assess their
current work/life balance
* Identify areas for change
* Create a personal vision of what a successfully balanced life
would be
* Learn and practice strategies to balance lives, including setting
limits and saying "no"
* Identify ways to keep energy up while juggling the competing demands
of work and personal life
Michele Ginnerty
has over fourteen years of experience as a trainer and consultant
specializing in training, facilitation, team building, curriculum
development, career transition and work/life programs. She has been
published in the Wharton Business School Work/Life Resource Guide
and was selected as a premier faculty member of the USDA Graduate
School in 1999. She has presented to groups ranging in size from
10 to 200. Clients include federal agencies, non-profit organizations,
and private sector firms including WashingtonPost.com, Bechtel Corporation,
Motley Food and John Snow, Inc.

and Wellness Seminars
What:
Code 200 and the GSFC Health Unit staff invite you to bring a lunch
and join us in a series of health and wellness seminars. The goal
of these presentations is to ensure our personnel are informed health
care consumers.

Information
Science & Technology Colloquium
What:
Goddards Office of the Assistant Director for Information
Sciences and Chief Information Officer announces the first GSFC
Information Sciences and Technology (IS&T) Colloquium presentation
of the Fall 2002 Series. Mr. Paul Strassmann, Senior Executive at
NASA Headquarters, will talk about Information Productivity: A Metric
for the Information Economy. Mr. Strassmann will describe his work
on measuring the effectiveness of information technology investments
starting with initial findings in 1979, pilot research from 1982-1985,
institutional resistance to measuring the total costs of information
resources and gradual acceptance of the metric. The presentation
will conclude with a demonstration of just released software that
relates information productivity to conventional financial accounting
practices.

a Q&A session made available to Wallops Flight Facility via

Moon Luncheon
What:
The Goddard Chinese American Club invites employees to join in and
have some fun and good food at the Mid-Autumn Moon Luncheon. Menu
includes: California rolls, chicken teriyaki, seafood delight, pepper
steak, salt and pepper fish, general tso chicken, Chinese vegetable
with mushroom, vegetable lo mein, moon cake and cookies, tea and
soft drinks. The cost is $8 per person

What:
The Goddard Hispanic Heritage Club invites employees to join in
celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month by attending the Paella Night
Dinner. Dinner will be served at 6:30 and includes sangria, Paella

Open House - Creating Value from Knowledge Assets
What:
Come see what is being done to Create Value from Goddards
Knowledge
Assets. The staff of the Goddard Library invites you to an Open
House. At 1:00 p.m. Center Director Al Diaz will introduce the Keynote
Speaker Simon Szykman of the National Institute of Standards and
Technology (NIST). Szykman is currently on an assignment in the
White House Office of Science and Technology Policy (OSTP). He will
be discussing his work on the NIST Design Repository Project to
develop a computational framework for the creation of design repositories
and the
proof-of-concept prototype.
Additionally,
throughout the day there will be demonstrations of exciting new
technologies, services and projects. Demonstration highlights will

Island Party Shrimp Feast
What:
The authentic island steel band "Ewabo" and a catered
dinner will highlight a great party along with the scrumptious menu
of 1 lb. jumbo steamed shrimp per person, jerk chicken, grilled

This course identifies the methods for valuing a technology by outlining
strategies for determining the net present value of the business
the technology supports and the portion of profits that can be attributed
to the technology. The Relief from Royalty and Technology Factor
valuation methods are examined thoroughly.
