Goddard in the News

ES: Spaceflight Now featured an article about the Iturralde Crater Expedition 2002 that will seek to determine if the unusual circular crater was created by a meteor or comet. The 5-mile (8 kilometer) diameter crater is located in an isolated part of the Bolivian Amazon. Dr. Peter Wasilewski organized the expedition that will be led by Dr. Tim Killeen of Conservation International and Dr. Compton Tucker of Goddard will assist Dr. Killeen.

SS: NASA's selection of TRW to build a next generation, a successor of the Hubble Space Telescope was a top feature at Space.com, BBC News, MSNBC.com, CNN.com, Dow Jones Report, Sky and Telescope and Cosmiverse. The new telescope will carry the name of James Webb Space Telescope, named after the second NASA administrator James Webb. TRW of Redondo Beach, Calif. will design and fabricate the observatory's primary mirror and spacecraft. TRW also will be responsible for integrating the science instrument module into the spacecraft as well as performing the pre-flight testing and on-orbit checkout of the observatory.

In addition, Baltimore Sun, LA Times, Florida Today and New York Times interviewed Bernard Seery, NGST project manager. Space.com interviewed both Seery and NGST senior project manager, Dr. John Mather.
