Space and Cosmic Ray Physics Seminar

Who: Mei-Ching Fok from Goddard will discuss the topic entitled, "Ring Current Modeling in the Global Geospace." This talk will explore the physical processes that control this local-time asymmetry and also discuss the coupling of ring current model with global MHD models.

Volunteers for Medical Engineers (VME) Demonstration

What: Do you want to display your engineering skills and have fun outside of your job? Do you have hands-on building skills but need a little design assistance to make an idea work as you solve an accessibility problem? Do you need adaptive equipment for improving your quality of life with your disability? If any of the above apply then maybe you should be a member of the Volunteers for Medical Engineers.

VME is a Baltimore-based nonprofit organization that utilizes engineers (and other talented people) who volunteer their time and expertise to develop new devices or adaptations of existing devices to enable and encourage independence for people with disabilities. VME will discuss engineering techniques that are used to develop and demonstrate different types of devices. VME partners with local schools along with private individuals to help them achieve the goals of improving access, progressing in educational endeavors, and increase opportunities in both industry and their personal lives.

Return to Hubble

What: Come and watch a special viewing of the Discovery Channel documentary entitled Return to Hubble. Dr. David Leckrone, Senior Project Scientist, will introduce the video which is dedicated to the highly successful HST Servicing Mission 3B.

This 50 minute piece brings the viewer closer than ever to the events that make up a real servicing mission. Return to Hubble features exclusive one-on-one interviews with each member of the crew who in their own words takes us through every detail of their story. The film also features interviews with both Hubble scientists and engineers who shed light on the science behind the mission.

When/Where: Wed, October 9 at 12:30 p.m. in the bldg 3 Goett Auditorium. For those who miss the first showing, we will run the video a second time at 1:45 p.m.

Sign interpreters will be provided upon request.

Hispanic Heritage Month Presentation

Hispanic Heritage Month Poster - Strength in Unity Faith and Diversity


What: In observance of Hispanic Heritage Month, the Goddard EEO office and the Hispanic Advisory Committee for Employees (HACE) sponsors guest speaker Ms. Miriam Cruz. Ms. Cruz served as Deputy Assistant for Hispanic Affairs to President Jimmy Carter and now is the founder of Equity Research Corporation (ERC), a private, non-profit educational consulting firm that promotes global educational opportunities for minority communities. Ms. Cruz will speak on the topic entitled, "Multi-Culturalism: A Challenge in the Workplace."

Wellness Seminar on Nutrition

What: The Goddard Health Unit is proud to present a Wellness Seminar on Nutrition. The presenter will be Robert A. Rifkin, Director of the White Flint Medical and Natural Healing Center in Rockville, Maryland.

Dr. Rifkin is a graduate of the Northwestern College of Chiropractic, Bloomington, Minnesota. He has post-graduate education in Acupuncture, Herbology/
Homeopathy, Spinal/Extremity Rehabilitation, Disability and Impairment Rating and Nutrition. Dr. Rifkin is licensed in the State of Maryland in Chiropractic and Physical Therapy. He is a member of numerous professional organizations.

Dr. Rifkin's presentation will focus on using diet and other natural supplements to correct and prevent illness. Mark this on your calendar. Join us, feel free to bring your lunch and your questions.

The 2002 Goddard Seminar Series on Race, Power and Privilege

What: Employees are invited to an in-depth learning experience for those who want to develop skills and perspectives helpful for managing change in the work setting leading to equity at all levels of function. During the seminars, the invited presenters, all experts in the domains of history, ethnography, law, and ethnic/racial/social dynamics, will discuss with seminar attendees and participants all aspects of the exploration of real and perceived concepts of race, power and privilege.

This course identifies the methods for valuing a technology by outlining strategies for determining the net present value of the business the technology supports and the portion of profits that can be attributed to the technology.
