SEWP Receives Award from International Information Technology Consortium

An Open Group Cannes Award was given to the Goddard Scientific and Engineer Workstation Procurement (SEWP) for outstanding achievement in mandating a specification for procurement by customer organization. This award is in recognition of the long-standing commitment the SEWP contracts have placed on Information Technology (IT) standards. In particular, SEWP has emphasized the standard UNIX operating system and more recently the Linux Standards Base both of which are certified by The Open Group.

The Open Group is an international vendor and technology-neutral consortium that is committed to delivering greater business efficiency by bringing together buyers and suppliers of information technology to lower the time, cost and risk associated with integrating new technology across the enterprise. Its members consist mostly of commercial enterprises such as Hewlett Packard, IBM and Compaq.

The Open Group sponsors several conferences through out the year. The Group's recent conference was held in Cannes, France and it was there that the recognition was given to NASA, several corporations and individuals.
