Simon Szykman
of the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) presented
a talk on the "NIST Design Repository Project." Szykman's

Partnerships
and teamwork are known to play a big role in effective knowledge
management. The Goddard Library partnered with Center organizations,
as well as the University of Maryland, to highlight and demonstrate
current Knowledge Management efforts underway at Goddard. Participating
groups included:
The MyGoddard
Portal, Code 585
NASA Technology Inventory, Code 408
Goddard's Virtual System Design Environment, Code 531
JOINed Digital Library for Earth Science Education, Code 900.2
Preserving Project Documents: A Standards-Based Approach, UMD Partnership
Digital Archiving of Goddard Knowledge Assets, Code 292 in partnership
with Code 420.1
Representatives
of innovative technology products were also on hand to discuss and
demonstrate their wares. These included: Co-Brain a knowledge mining
tool being investigated through a NASA CIO pilot project; StreamSage
a tool being used here at Goddard to process streaming media and
incorporate content management and accessibility; and VBrick which
provides a variety of tools for live television, video-on-demand,
internet streaming, and two-way interactive television.
In addition,
the Library demonstrated new knowledge management projects recently
completed to enhance accessibility for users. These included; IMAGES,
(Image and Movie Archive of Goddard's Earth and Space Sciences)
Goddard's first and only broad-based repository for images derived
from Goddard scientific instruments. MyLibrary, a customizable portal
for Goddard Library users; and ILink, the improved interface for
the Goddard Library catalog.
