Core Financial Up and Running…Successful Go Live at Marshall and Glenn!!

On October 28, the first transactions in the new Core Financial system were initiated. Eighteen end users from NASA Headquarters, Code B, entered the system in order to release funding to the two implementing Centers, Marshall Space Flight Center and Glenn Research Center. As of Nov. 2, 2002, approximately 2,800 users have access to the Core Financial System. Initial days of go live are just as expected, difficult but exciting! The following transactions have been generated:

  • Straightline and Contractor Cost Report Processing (1388 service entry sheets created)
  • l93 Procurement Requisitions Created
  • l275 Obligation Documents Created
  • l356 Bankcard Order Logs and associated Procurement Requisitions Created
  • l25 HHS Drawdowns Processed

The Core Financial module is one of nine modules that make up the Integrated Financial Management Program (IFMP). The agency-wide utilization of the Core Financial enterprise software will allow IFMP to deliver full cost accounting at NASA, a critical concern of both the Administrator and the President's Management Agenda. In addition, improved ability to manage will facilitate the One NASA vision, an effort to work with seamless uniformity across the Agency.

Pam Cucarola, Core Financial Project Manager stated, "Every Center contributed resources to this Project, and I want to express my appreciation for the hard work that has been done to date and for their dedication to this effort. Additionally, I want to let you know that we are focused on the successful launch of the Core Financial Project at your Centers and look forward to next June when the vision of "One NASA" is actualized in our financial systems.

Now that we know what can be accomplished, we are more motivated than ever to continue to work with all of you in reaching our common goals. Thank you for your support. Be assured that you will have ours in the months ahead."

The Goddard Space Flight Center (GSFC) can expect Core Financial to go live in June of 2003. The GSFC Core Financial Project Team is busy working to make the implementation successful. Watch for upcoming communication, training and forums to learn more about the benefits of the Core Financial module and IFMP in general.
