Volunteers Needed for Educational Program

Goddard Education Progams has received a request for volunteers for:

Capitol Heights Elementary School Science Fair, volunteers will serve as judges for the Capitol Heights Elementary School Science Fair on Wednesday, December 4, 2002 at Capitol Heights Elementary School, Capitol Heights, MD. The Science Fair committee cordially extends an invitation to you for participation in judging exhibits interviewing each student about his/her projects and experiences investigating selected math, science and technology topics. You would not have to stay the entire day. Whatever time can be donated would be appreciated. Judges can participate starting at 8:25 a.m. and conclude by 2:45 p.m. with a Continental Breakfast and Lunch provided. Liberty High School Science Fair, volunteers to serve as judges for the first annual Liberty High School Science Fair in April 2003. The event is sponsored by the Science Club and is for students in grades 9-12. The Science Fair committee cordially extends an invitation to you for participation in judging exhibits, interviewing each student about his/her projects and experiences investigating selected math, science and technology topics. North County High School Science Fair, volunteers will serve as judges for the North County High School annual Science Fair, Thursday, January 16, 2003, at the school, which is located at 10 E. First Avenue, Glen Burnie, MD. The Science Fair committee cordially extends an invitation to you for participation in judging time and conversation with Honors High school students discussing their projects and experiences investigating selected science topics. Judges can participate starting from 9:30 to11:30 a.m. or from 12:00 to 2:00 p.m. Refreshments will be provided. As a judge you will review the exhibits and then spend time interviewing students regarding their use of scientific thought, methods, visual appearance and creativity. The Federation of Galaxy Explorers: volunteers are needed to assist in educating and inspiring youth in space related science and engineering by expanding the frontiers of science and technology. The mission of the Galaxy explorers is to educate, guide and prepare the next generation to accept the challenge of expanding humankind's presence in space. You can learn more about the program at www.foge.org. Volunteers will participate in after school activities with easy to understand educational materials that provide a hands-on understanding of space science, earth science, engineering and rocketry. Another theme, Space Citizenship, will address the role of government, power of citizens in a democracy, and the promise of space expressed in art, writing, history and business. Organized into local "Mission Teams" meeting on a monthly basis, materials, workbooks and web site support for instruction with hands-on activities are provided. Field trips and awards are part of the program encouraging self-esteem through achievement and recognition. Appalachia Holiday Drive

This year's Appalachia Drive will be held on Tuesday, December 3, and Tuesday, December 10. A truck will be parked in the Motor Pool Parking Lot (Building 27, off Soil Conservation Road) between 7:30 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. to receive your donations. Please note the location change from previous years.

Your clean usable clothing, household goods, canned food and toys will be distributed to needy families who are among the poorest in the country. PLEASE securely bag or box loose or fragile items to ensure their safe arrival. Sorry - no large appliances, carpets or upholstered furniture can be accepted.

GSFC employees should be congratulated, as this is the 31st year of the Appalachia Drive! Please don't forget that a new toy would be especially appreciated by a mountain child this Holiday Season.

 

Property Management Retail Sale

Property Management Branch will have a Retail Sale on Thursday, December 5, 2002 in bldg. 16W, Rm. S-100. Inspection is from 8:00 a.m. to 9:45 a.m. Sale will start at 10:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
