Management
The Washington Post featured an article on how NASA is managing
with the near future wave of retirements, which will occur across
federal agencies. As part of the knowledge sharing initiative, NASA
has developed a publication with a collection of information from
senior managers. The article speaks of Martin Davis, GOES/POES
Program Manager at Goddard who is part of the knowledge preservation
efforts. Martin has attended several tell-it-all-knowledge sessions
and is quoted expressing how more meaningful the sessions are then
just having to read 'lessons learned.'
Earth Science
The Bush Administration focus on reducing black-carbon soot and
methane instead of carbon dioxide pollution as focus, the primary
cause of global warming was a featured article in The San Diego
Union-Tribune. The article refers to James Hansen from
GISS as "the father of global-warming science" who recommends
reducing carbon dioxide pollution.
A NASA study,
which finds that the perennial sea ice in the Arctic is melting
at a rate of 9 percent per decade, was a featured article in the
Xinhua News Agency. Josefino Camiso, lead researcher
from Goddard, is quoted in the article explaining the affects of
the melting ice.
Florida Today
featured an article on next month's launching of a trio of satellites
and instruments, which will measure ice, wind and hot plasma. ICESat
will help scientists know whether the ice sheets over Greenland
and Antarctica are growing or shrinking. The article quotes Jay
Zwally, ICESat project scientist, explaining the purpose of
studying the melting which is occurring in those area.
Space Science
Spaceflightnow.com and Space.com featured articles
on the Wednesday evening launch of TDRS-J satellite. TDRS-J will
provide users with improved multiple access, S-band single access,
as well as a new Ka-band service.
