Earth Science
The LA Times featured an article on the true-color Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) image from the Aqua satellite which shows streams of dust blowing southwestward over the Los Angeles metropolitan area. The Santa Ana winds that roared through Southern California may also have brought an unexpected problem of water polluion. High bacteria readings were reported at 14 sites along Orange County's coast from Laguna Beach to Huntington Beach.

Space Science
Space weather and NASA's Living With A Star program was the topic of a featured article in Wired News. Solar events such as a coronal mass
ejections can have a devastating affect on satellites and communications
systems. The article highlighted the NASA research program Living With A
Star which will monitor and chart solar disturbances by building a network
of space-weather research spacecraft.
