Introduction
to XML
What:
Heard a lot of hype about XML, but don't know what it means? Come
to the next GSFC Webmasters meeting, where there will be an explanation
of the XML "Revolution" by Mike Snyder, of WestLake Internet
Training.
When/Where:
Tuesday, January 21, from 2 - 3 p.m. in the Building 3 Goett Auditorium.
There will also be a raffle of one free day of West Lake training
classes to one lucky attendee.

Colloquium
Who:
Dr. Gail Cynthia Christopher, Executive Director for Institute for
Governement Innovation at Harvard JFK School of Government. Dr.
Christopher earned an international reputation by creating and promoting
holistic solutions to critical social concerns. Dr. Christopher
has joined a list of distinguished public servants when elected
as a Fellow of the National Academy of Public Administration. She's
earned numerous awards, including Outstanding Woman of America,
Leadership Greater Chicago Fellow and Outstanding African-American
Woman. Dr. Christopher appeared as a guest commentator on Good
Morning America, the Oprah Winfrey Show and The Financial
News Network. She was prominently featured in two television
documentaries that aired nationally: "Crisis on Federal Street"
on PBS and "Education First" on CBS.
This presentation
explores the characteristics, qualities and coping strategies of
high performing organizations and individuals though stories and
humor and offers practical guidance for effectively navigating the
waves of organizational change.

Science and Technology Colloquium
Who:
Dr. Luis Rocha, will talk about Extraction and Semi-metric Analysis
of Social and Biological Networks. Dr. Rocha will describe their
work on inferring relevant associations from, as well as characterizing,
semi-metric distance graphs. The discussion is based on empirical
evidence from different sources such as a large database of scientific
publications associated with Active Recommendation Project at the
Los Alamos National Laboratory, collection of newspaper articles
about terrorism, a website devoted to interdisciplinary science,
biomedical collections of publications, data from word free association
experiments, and random distance graphs.

History Month - Presentation by Mr. Asa Gordon
Who:
Mr. Asa, Executive Director, DIG will speak on "The Constitutional
Mandate For Electoral Reform: The Constitution's Fourteenth Amendment"
This lecture will present the historical and contemporary context
of electoral reform by the enforcement of a reconstruction era constitutional
provision originally intended to safeguard the electoral rights
of formerly en-slaved Africans in their emergence to full American
citizenship. In addition, this lecture will demonstrate the constitutional
provision's relevance to the establishment of a broader political
base for participatory democracy inclusive of all Americans in present
day elections.
All Goddard
employees, civil servants and contractors are welcome to attend
this event.
