Information Science and Technology Colloquium

Who: Dr. Luis Rocha, will talk about Extraction and Semi-metric Analysis of Social and Biological Networks. Dr. Rocha will describe their work on inferring relevant associations from, as well as characterizing, semi-metric distance graphs. The discussion is based on empirical evidence from different sources such as a large database of scientific publications associated with Active Recommendation Project at the Los Alamos National Laboratory, collection of newspaper articles about terrorism, a website devoted to interdisciplinary science, biomedical collections of publications, data from word free association experiments, and random distance graphs.

Black History Month - Presentation by Mr. Asa Gordon

Who: Mr. Asa, Executive Director, DIG will speak on "The Constitutional Mandate For Electoral Reform: The Constitution's Fourteenth Amendment." This lecture will present the historical and contemporary context of electoral reform by the enforcement of a reconstruction era constitutional provision originally intended to safeguard the electoral rights of formerly en-slaved Africans in their emergence to full American citizenship. In addition, this lecture will demonstrate the constitutional provision's relevance to the establishment of a broader political base for participatory democracy inclusive of all Americans in present day elections.

All Goddard employees, civil servants and contractors are welcome to attend this event.

When/Where: Thurs, January 30 in the Bldg. 3 Goett Auditorium from 11:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m.

Who: Dr. Margaret Wheatley author and initiator of the Center Director's Colloquia will discuss the topic of her latest book, "Turning to One Another: The Power of Human Conversation."

What: The next Mac User Group (MUG) meeting has been scheduled for a POST MacWorld Update. Topics of discuss includes:
