and Cosmic Ray Physics Seminar
Who:
Dr. Miriam A. Forman, State University of New York at Stony Brook
University of Maryland. Ms. Forman will discuss the topic entitled,
"Intermittency in Solar wind Turbulence." Statistical
measures used in theory and analysis of real and simulated turbulent
systems will be described in this talk, and illustrated using the
radial solar wind speed measured by SWEPAM on ACE in June 2000-
a period of "slow" solar wind. Particular attention will
be given to the meaning and description of "scaling,"
and to the role of the largest fluctuations.

Who:
Dr. James Coplien is an associate professor of Computer Science
at North Central College in Naperville, IL. and is a Visiting Professor
at the University of Manchester Institute of Science and Technology.
Dr. Coplien will discuss the topic entitled, "Software Patterns"
and will describe software patterns as they are being used on large
projects, particularly in telecommunications, in a way that was
initially intended and which goes far beyond the Design Patterns
of the object-oriented community.
When/Where:
Wed., Feb 26 at 3:30 pm in the bldg. 3 Goett Auditorium followed
