Finite Element Modeling Continuous Improvement (FEMCI) Workshop

What: Mechanical Systems Analysis and Simulation Branch will host the annual Finite Element Modeling Continuous Improvement (FEMCI) Workshop. The workshop allows engineers to present innovative engineering solutions to aerospace structural problems though papers, presentations, and posters. The format also allows engineers to talk directly to several FEA software vendors such as MSC NASTRAN, ABAQUS, ANSYS, etc. Abstracts are being solicited for presentations/posters that address topics in finite element modeling and structural mechanics that are new, innovative, or differ from established techniques. Topics include but are not limited to the following areas:

  • Ground test and/or space flight simulations
  • Innovative design solutions
  • Integrated modeling techniques
  • Model correlation
  • Multidisciplinary problems (thermal-structural-optical, controls-structures, etc.)
  • Nonlinear problems
  • Optimization
  • Structural dynamics

Prospective presenters are invited to submit brief abstracts (limited to 1 page including figures) to John Johnston at John.D.Johnston@nasa.gov.

When/Where: Abstracts are due no later than March 21, 2003. Annual Workshop will be held on May 7-8, 2003. All sessions will be held at the NASA GSFC Visitor Center. There is no cost to attend.

Upcoming Training

In the IDP Workshop for Supervisors and the IDP Workshop for Employees, many questions have come up around the IDP process. Under OHR's career development page, there is a list of Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) that have come from both supervisors and employees. These questions have been answered by OHR staff and legal counsel. Please take time to review these FAQs at http://ohr.gsfc.nasa.gov/DevGuide/idp.htm. Questions? Please contact Tracey White at tcwhite@pop100.gsfc.nasa.gov
