In observance and in celebration of marking a century of flight in 2003, Goddard News will feature historical NASA flight tidbits throughout the year. This Week in History: The twin spacecraft, Gravity Recovery And Climate Experiment (GRACE) spacecraft was launched on March 17, 2002. (GRACE) consists of two spacecraft flying in tandem that will measure Earth's gravitational field very precisely. These measurements will enable a better understanding of ocean surface currents and ocean heat transport. The mission will be able to measure changes in sea-floor pressure and show how the mass of the oceans change.

GRACE is a joint U.S. and German mission and is a component of NASA's Earth Science Enterprise (ESE). For more information, visit: http://www.csr.utexas.edu/grace/ http://essp.gsfc.nasa.gov/grace/index.html
