Space
and Cosmic Ray Physics Seminar
Who:
Andrew Smith, University of Maryland will discuss, "Searching
for Gamma Ray Bursts with Milagro." Smith will examine the
Milagro Gamma Ray Observatory, which consists of a large man-made
pond (4800 m^2) instrumented with an array of photomultiplier tubes.
Milagro operates 24 hours a day and continuously observes the entire
overhead sky (~2 sr). Because of its wide field of view and high
duty cycle Milagro is uniquely capable of searching for TeV emission
from GRBs. Initial results of the search for VHE GRBs with Milagro
are presented.

What: Encore Video Presentation: "School Failure and
the African-American Boy" with Ms. Jacqueline Galloway-Blake,
MA. Ms. Galloway-Blake examines how African influences and the slavery
experiences have shaped the learning styles of African-American
children. It shows how American schools have failed the African-American
boy and outlines how school educators and administrators can work
with parents to improve the immediate and long-term academic success
for African-American boys. Why are so many African American boys
placed in special education classes in America's schools? Has the
African-American boy failed at school or has the school failed the
African-American boy? Galloway-Blake will examine this timely and
crucial topic in the light of Black history: venture back in time
to ancient African culture and later onward through the Middle Passage
and life on plantations as the threads of these experiences are
interwoven to shape the learning style of African-American boys.

for Supervisors and the IDP Workshop for Employees, many questions
have come up around the IDP process. Under OHR's career development
page, there is a list of Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) that
have come from both supervisors and employees. These questions have
been answered by OHR staff and legal counsel. Please take time to
