Nancy Lorraine Jensen Memorial Scholarship Fund Applications are sought from qualified Goddard Space Flight Center (GSFC) employees and/or their dependents for the Nancy Lorraine Jensen Memorial Scholarship. The Nancy Lorraine Jensen Memorial Scholarship Fund was established in 1994 by Dr. and Mrs. Arthur S. Jensen in memory of their daughter. Nancy distinguished herself at GSFC as an outstanding engineer. It is the wish of Dr. and Mrs. Jensen to encourage young women to enter the field of science and engineering by offering scholarships in her memory. To be eligible for a scholarship an applicant from GSFC must ; A) be a current female employee of NASA/Goddard Space Flight Center, or a daughter or granddaughter of a current employee, B) be an American citizen not younger than 17 and not older than 35 years old, C) be a full-time undergraduate who has completed at least one term of her studies majoring in chemistry, physics or engineering (chemical, electrical or mechanical). A draft environmental
assessment for aerial spraying for treatment of gypsy moths on various
local federal lands, including GSFC, proposed for late April early

The comment period will conclude on April 10, 2003. Refer to center

Men and Women Needed for Energy/Nutrition Study The USDA/John Hopkins Universtiy is holding information meetings to recruit an additional 100 adults 30 to 69 years old for summer groups in 2003. If you are already participating in this study, do not respond to this message -- you may not participate more than once. This study is designed to learn about what people eat and the calories they burn. THIS IS NOT A FEEDING STUDY AND THERE ARE NO DIETARY RESTRICTIONS. Participants will receive $325 for completing the main study, plus $25 for each of two optional tests. Following a medical evaluation and blood and urine screening, participants will be selected based on their age, height, weight, health status, and availability to complete the study. Diabetics, persons taking diuretics or certain steroid medications, and nutrition professionals are excluded from participating. Over a 14-day study period (during April - June), participants will agree to: travel 5- 6 times to the Beltsville Human Nutrition Research Center; drink a special water solution which will be used to help measure the calories they burn, be interviewed three times by a trained interviewer about the foods they eat, and have blood and urine samples collected and their body composition measured. Information Meetings: Interested? You must attend a 1-hour information meeting at the Beltsville Human Nutrition Research Center, Center Drive, Building 307, Room 114, Beltsville, MD 20705. The Beltsville Human Nutrition Research Center is recruiting subjects for a Nutrition Study. Men with normal blood pressure without medication, aged 35-65 years old, will be selected after a medical valuation and blood and urine screening. Subjects will be asked to complete a nutrition questionnaire and consume test diets foods containing starch and/or fiber. Diet will be controlled for three days during 10 separate weeks. All food will
be provided by the Center for these days and no other food or beverages
containing calories will be allowed. On the third day a tolerance
test will be given during which subject's will consume test foods.
Blood and breath samples will be collected before and after each
tolerance. The study is planned for the June through November of
2003. Subjects selected for the study will be required to consume
breakfast Thursday-Friday and complete a tolerance test on Saturday
at the Beltsville Human Study Facility. Subjects will be paid $1,500.00
for completing the study. For further

Volunteers Needed for Educational Program Goddard Education Programs has received a request for volunteers for: Timonium Elementary School Career Day, volunteers will serve as speakers to highlight their careers by providing interactive learning experience for students. There are booths available for students to visit whereby they can choose three careers that interest them the most. The activity will be an all day event on Wednesday, May 21, 2003, from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm for the entire student body. The school is located in Baltimore County. Lunch will be provided. The Federation of Galaxy Explorers, volunteers are needed to assist in educating and inspiring youth in space related science and engineering by expanding the frontiers of science and technology. The mission of the Galaxy explorers is to educate, guide and prepare the next generation to accept the challenge of expanding humankind's presence in space. Volunteers will participate in after school activities with easy to understand educational materials that provide a hands-on understanding of space science, earth science, engineering and rocketry. Organized into local "Mission Teams" meeting on a monthly basis, materials, workbooks and web site support for instruction with hands-on activities are provided. Field trips and awards are part of the program encouraging self-esteem through achievement and recognition.
