The Information Science and Technology (IS&T) colloquium concluded with recognition to Janet Ormes, recipient of the Excellence in IS&T Award. The Excellence in IS & T award recognizes Ormes outstanding, innovative and sustained achievements in her career as branch head of the library information sciences branch and assistant CIO for library and information services.

A nominator for Ormes, James Smith, Staff Scientist for Data Systems says, "Ormes is a trailblazer in the use of web resources to share electronic information form library sources directly to the desktop. All of the services available from the GSFC library are now accessible through the Web." As a result of her outstanding leadership and efforts the Library of Congress selected the Goddard Library for the 2002 Federal Library of the Year.

Among many other achievements, Ormes not only exhibits, significant contributions to Goddard programs or projects in the areas of information, science and technology but she does so aboard. "Librarians from around the world, including recent visitors from universities in Kenya and Ireland have sought her advice and knowledge" adds James Smith, Staff Scientist for Data Systems.

Centennial of Flight Activities Gain Momentum: NASA has a special connection with the Wright Brothers' 100th anniversary. In 1915, the United States Congress created the National Advisory Committee for Aeronautics, NASA's predecessor organization. During 2003, Inventing Flight offers an outstanding opportunity for NASA to reach the public and show pride in our part of aviation's evolution. Visit the NASA Glenn Centennial Website at: http://centennial.grc.nasa.gov for information about the Inventing Flight celebration. Volunteers are needed for most of the venues and participation is open to all NASA civil service employees, contractors and retirees with supervisory approval.
