Congratulations
QASAR Award Recipients
The recipients
of the Quality and Safety Achievement Recognition (QASAR) Program
were acknowledged at an award ceremony held early this week. The
QASAR award recognizes NASA, other government and prime/subcontractor
individuals for significant quality improvements to products or
services for NASA, or safety initiatives within products, programs,
processes or management activities. In addition, the program promotes
safety, quality and continuous improvement throughout NASA.
The four award
categories for which an individual's accomplishment may fall under
are those who have: identified or implemented significant quality
or safety improvements; those who have institute continuous quality
or safety improvement; identified potential quality or safety problems
and recommend corrective action to preclude mishap and those who
have advance the quality and safety profession through other significant
accomplishments.

Wentworth Denoon,
Oiffice of Systems Safety and Mission Assurance director is a member
of the Goddard QASAR award panel and authorizes Goddard nominations
before going to Headquarters for competing among other Centers'
nominations and for Headquarters to select NASA's "Best of
the Best."
The center-level
awards for 2001 and 2002 were presented to Frederick Felt,
Code 562 in the category of NASA Prime or Subcontractor. The award
recognizes Felt for his outstanding initiative and persistence in
eliminating a serious chemical safety hazard, resulting in a safe
and secure work environment. Kenneth LaBel, Code 561 was
recognized in the category of NASA Civil Service Non-Safety and
Mission Assurance for his outstanding technical leadership in mitigating
risk to NASA missions due to space radiation effects. Also, Diane
Kolos, Code 541 was acknowledged in the category of NASA Civil
Service Non-Safety and Mission Assurance for her efforts to enable
mission success through continued dedication to assuring the quality
of flight electronics boards used in NASA's flight programs.
