Sky &
Telescope featured and article on the discovery of the new star.
Bonnard Teegarden, an astrophysicist at Goddard led the collaboration
of scientists search of looking for white dwarf stars that move
rapidly across the sky when the faint star was noticed.
The video covering
National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and NASA testing
of vans and SUV in the Goddard centrifuge received excellent play
on local broadcast stations across the country. The video footage
was shown on 61 different stations. Both NBC and ABC
fed short stories to their affiliates. Many of the stationed segued
from yesterday's rollover safety release from the insurance industry.
In Charlotte, they segued to a NASCAR story.
The coverage
is noteworthy considering the testing was completed last winter
and the press release was issued back in April. The video release
was delayed due to the flood in the basement of building 8. Amazingly,
Fred Kemmen was able to pull the video file despite the flood
situation.
There will be
weekend coverage onHeart TV and CNN. The Discovery
Science Channel plans on doing a centrifuge segment for
their technology show.
The video file
was co-produced by Mike McClare and Michael Starobin.
