Goddard Recognized For Its Education Outreach

Goddard's educational efforts in support of Prince George's County Public Schools were recognized during The First Annual Partners in Education Awards Receptions, held at the Greenbelt Marriott, Wednesday, June 18.

Sponsored by the Prince George's County Board Of Education, Goddard received the "Leadership By Example Award" for continued support of their education efforts. Representing Goddard and accepting the award was Dr. Antoinette Wells, Education Program Specialist for the education office here.

According to Dr. Wells, Goddard over the years has developed an extensive list of education activities for Prince George's County and other surrounding communities. These activities number more than 50 different programs and include but are not limited to mentoring programs, Science Fairs, providing guest speakers, coordinating astronaut visits, and the SISTER program to name a few.

Centennial of Flight Activities Gain Momentum: NASA has a special connection with the Wright Brothers' 100th anniversary. In 1915, the United States Congress created the National Advisory Committee for Aeronautics, NASA's predecessor organization. During 2003, Inventing Flight offers an outstanding opportunity for NASA to reach the public and show pride in our part of aviation's evolution. Visit the NASA Glenn Centennial Website at: http://centennial.grc.nasa.gov for information about the Inventing Flight celebration. Volunteers are needed for most of the venues and participation is open to all NASA civil service employees, contractors and retirees with supervisory approval.
