Goddard Recognized For Its Education Outreach - cont'd

Dr. Wells said that the mentor/intern programs in particular, provide unique opportunities for Goddard to promote careers in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. She stated that these programs also provide a pipeline to develop and inspire the next generation. The award recognition could be look upon as a testimony to Goddard's success with outreach to the Prince George's County community.

Recently Dr. Bob Gabrys, Education Officer for Goddard stated that the job of the education office was to interpret and implement education initiatives as directed by NASA headquarters. "My job is to transform the NASA mission statement from paper to practical application," said Dr. Gabrys.

The Goddard education programs are an extension of NASA's on going efforts to inspire the next generation as only NASA can. NASA administrator Sean O'Keefe has stated that we have a responsibility to enlighten and inspire a new generation of scientists, engineers and technologists. With such an extensive list of education activities Goddard continues to represent NASA's desire for educational outreach. So says the Prince George's County Board Of Education.
