Summer Flicks
Take a break
from the daily grind and come to the Goddard Library Summer Flicks
Event on Tuesday, July 29 at 1:30 pm in the Goddard Library Reading
Room (Building 21). The two exciting NASA films are:
Apollo 13 (The original NASA Newsreel)
See footage
from the actual NASA newsreel that captured the events of the Apollo
13 mission. An explosion in one of the oxygen tanks crippled the
spacecraft during flight and the crew was forced to orbit the Moon
and return to the Earth without landing. This is not the Hollywood
version of events, but actual footage from inside the capsule. [27
minutes]
Blackout!
Solar Storms and their Effects on Earth
This
award-winning film illustrates with 3D animation, the phenomenal
eruptions of our Sun and their effects upon the earth. Enormous
ejections of solar material (Coronal Mass Ejections) and solar flares
come alive in the film as intense extremes of "space weather",
events that can have serious effects on power grids, communications,
pipelines, and satellites. [18
minutes]
Dr. Dave Williams
from Code 600 will be on hand to discuss the movies.
Popcorn will
be served!
