Mandatory
Security Education and Awareness Training (SEAT)
Security is a top priority for NASA and a key ingredient of successful
mission accomplishment for the Goddard Space Flight Center (GSFC).
Security is also everyone's responsibility, and in order for employees
to be knowledgeable of established security policies and procedures,
NASA requires that security education and awareness training be
conducted on an annual basis. The GSFC's Security Division (Code
240) has coordinated with NASA's Site for On-line Learning and Resources
(SOLAR) to develop a security education and awareness training module.
MANDATORY
SEAT MODULE AND TARGET AUDIENCE
All GSFC civil service employees and onsite and offsite contractors
who are included in the Locator and Information Services Tracking
System (LISTS) are required to complete the training course entitled
"Security Education and Awareness Module" on the SOLAR
Web site. The module is required to be completed by November
14, 2003.
HOW TO FIND
THE SEAT MODULE
Go to the SOLAR Web site at https://solar.msfc.nasa.gov:443/solar/delivery/public/html/newindex.htm
(ensure you use https://) and click on the "Training Centers"
link located on the toolbar. Click on the GSFC link and you will
find the course entitled "Security Education and Awareness
Module." Please ensure you are taking the course from the GSFC
link or you will not receive proper credit. It is recommended that
you print out your certificate of completion for documentation purposes.
The SOLAR Web site will automatically track the names of users who
successfully complete the module (i.e., pass the test); however,
your printed certificate will be helpful if/when a discrepancy occurs.
UPDATING
YOUR USER PROFILE
Before taking the training course, please follow the SOLAR Web site
instructions and update your user profile (e.g., name, location,
organization code, telephone number, and e-mail address). Go to
"My Account" on the toolbar and click on "Change
User Information" on the following screen. Having
up-to-date user information will allow accurate tracking, by organizational
code, of individuals who have completed the training.
FORGOTTEN
USER ID OR PASSWORD
If you have used the SOLAR Web site for previous training (e.g.,
IT Security Training), log onto the system and enter your user name
and password by following the instructions provided above under
"How to Find the SEAT Module." However, if you have previously
taken training but do not remember your user name and/or password,
simply click on the appropriate link on the left side of the SOLAR
Web site (i.e., "Forgot User ID" or "Forgot Password").
Upon entering your information and submitting the request, the user
name and new password will normally be forwarded to you via e-mail
within 30 minutes.
HOW TO REQUEST
USER ID
If you have never used the SOLAR Web site for training, simply click
on the appropriate link on the left side of the SOLAR Web site (i.e.,
"Request New Account"). If you meet the criteria of a
new user, submit the requested information and your user name and
password will normally be forwarded to you via e-mail within 30
minutes. If you are not included in LISTS (e.g., some foreign national
employees or visitors, summer students), you will be asked to provide
a government point-of-contact. The SOLAR Administrator will send
an e-mail to the point-of-contact for authorization. Once authorized,
your account will be issued.
If you encounter
any problems or have questions about the training module or maneuvering
through the SOLAR Web site, please do not hesitate to contact Mr.
Shawn Boesen, Code 240, Security Training Coordinator, at 301-286-7233
or via e-mail at Shawn.M.Boesen@nasa.gov.
