Information
Science & Technology (IS&T) Colloquium
Who:
Jon, 'Maddog' Hall, executive director of Linux International, will
present on the topic of "Programming for the 21st Century:
Back to the Future." Mr. Hall will at programming techniques
that have been around for years, but become more practical with
the advent of Beowulf systems and Superclusters. He will also suggest
issues surrounding the future of using superclusters and ways of
solving them.
When/Where:

Education
& Outreach Colloquium
Who:
Dr. Ann Benbow, director of outreach for the American Geological
Institute, will give an overview of her public relations program,
while sharing lessons learned and insights on what she has found
to be particularly effective strategies for the AGI. She will also
highlight opportunities for collaboration between NASA and the AGI.
Dr. Benbow is a researcher, curriculum developer, educator and program
development expert. After teaching biology, chemistry and Earth
science at the high school, elementary school and community college
levels, she taught elementary and secondary science methods at the
university level. She worked in research and development for the
Education Division of the American Chemical Society for 12 years
prior to joining AGI.
When/Where:
Wednesday, October 15, from 12 noon to 1p.m. in Building
33, Room H114.
This colloquium
is open to anyone and all are invited to attend. Education &
outreach personnel are particularly encouraged. Feel free to bring
and eat your lunch.

Colloquium
Who:
Dr. Giovinella Gonthier, civility expert will present on incivility
in the workplace, an increasingly serious issue. Dr. Gonthier is
the author of 'Rude Awakenings: Overcoming the Civility Crisis in
the Workplace' and has served as an ambassador to many countries
and to the United Nation. She has been written about in the Wall
Street Journal and has appeared on CNN, CBS MarketWatch
radio and Fox TV among others.
When/Where:
Tuesday, October 21 at 10 a.m. in the bldg. 3 Goett Auditorium
and from 2 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. group discussion in the bldg. 1 training
facility.

Training
Continuous Risk Management Course
This course
familiarizes the student with the fundamentals of Continuous Risk
Management (CRM) using hypothetical space flight project case study
with an interactive teaching approach that combines lecture with
exercises and group discussion. This training is consistent with
CRM requirements identified in NPG 7120.5, NASA Program & Project
NASA Program and Project Management Processes and Requirements,
and NPG 8000.4, Risk Management.
You will learn
- How to: (1)
Identify risks in a specific format; (2) Analyze risk probability,
impact, and timeframe; (3) Plan approaches; (4) Track risks through
data compilation and analysis; (5) Control and monitor risks;
(6) Communicate and document the process and decisions
- How to implement
CRM within an organization using a variety methods and tools;
- How to tailor
the CRM process for your organization.
Who Should
Attend
All GSFC personnel interested in learning basic risk management
skills. Personnel with flight program/project management, resource
management engineering, mission operations, and assurance responsibility;
Professionals involved in managing, identifying, or reviewing of
risks, risk management plans, or risk assessments.

Night has been rescheduled, come join in the celebration of Hispanic

Fall Dinner Theater - "Barnum"
Tickets are
going fast for the MAD's production of 'Barnum' directed by Eliot
Malumuth and produced by Suzy Crabb. Tickets cost $25 on Thursdays/Fridays
