Space
and Cosmic Ray Physics Seminar
What:
Dr Regina J. Cody, Goddard Astrochemistry Branch (code 691) will
present on 'Laboratory Chemical Research Applied to the Atmospheres
of the Outer Planets.' This talk will give an overview of the chemistry,
especially hydrocarbon chemistry, of the Outer Planetary atmospheres
and then discuss several laboratory studies we have recently finished.
The rate constant for the recombination of methyl radicals was measured
to help resolve the discrepancy in methyl radical column density
between observations and photochemical models of the atmospheres
of Saturn and Neptune. The rate constant for the reaction of hydrogen
atoms with cyanoacetylene was measured for the first time for the
atmosphere of the Saturnian moon Titan, where there is a discrepancy
between the results of observations and photochemical models.
When/Where:
Monday, Nov 17 at 4:30 p.m., University of Maryland, Computer
and Space Sciences Building in room 2400. Tea and cookies will be
from 4 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.
The Space and
Cosmic Ray Physics Seminars are sponsored by the Department of Physics,

Technology, University of Maryland

Upcoming
Training
IDP Workshops
In the IDP Workshop
for Supervisors and the IDP Workshop for Employees, many questions
have come up around the IDP process. Under OHR's career development
page, there is a list of Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) that
have come from both supervisors and employees. These questions have
been answered by OHR staff and legal counsel. Please take time to
review these FAQs at http://ohr.gsfc.nasa.gov/DevGuide/idp.htm.

and when cast as large, hierarchical, taxonomically organized, publicly
accessible, dynamic data objects, they are also becoming increasingly
important in knowledge-based sciences.
