Synopsis

TWO GENERATIONS WORKING TOGETHER (Soybeans in Space) G01-075 11/13/01 00:05:10 Two generations of students are working together to send soybeans into space to see if microgravity will have an effect on their growth and yield. The experiment teams students from the New Oxford Elementary School with the Brethren Retirement Home. Both are located in New Oxford, PA.

TAPE CONTENTS:

ITEM (1): Two Generations of Teamwork - The soybeans were packaged into little capsules, which will blast off into space on the STS-108, Space Shuttle Endeavor. The seeds will be carried in the payload bay in a Get Away Special (GAS) canister. The experiment really begins once the seeds are returned to Earth and soybeans grown from the space seeds are compared to soybeans grown from control seeds confined to Earth. The students hope to answer the question: will the Earth-bound and space-traveled soybeans grow differently? This is NASA's first inter-generational project.
