HST COMMUNICATIONS RELEASE G99-003 01/13/99 00:00:00Computer software developed for NASA's Hubble Space Telescope will soon help operate a worldwide, satellite-based phone system called Globalstar. This software is a key feature of NASA Goddard Space Flight Center's "Vision 2000," a forward-looking effort to optimize the ground system operations and control of the Hubble Space Telescope.

TAPE CONTENTS:

ITEM (1): NASA'S TECHNOLOGY TRANSFER - Computer software called "Vision 2000" was developed for NASA's Hubble Space Telescope and will soon help operate a world-wide satellite-based phone system called Globalstar. The following is an animation of the Hubble Space Telescope.
ITEM (2): SPACE TELESCOPE OPERATIONS CONTROL CENTER "B-ROLL" - The "Vision 2000" software allows scientists and engineers to access and display Hubble spacecraft and ground systems data through the internet; thereby, allowing them to view it from their homes or a remote site with their personal computers.
ITEM (3): TECHNOLOGY SPIN-OFF - This Hubble Space Telescope spin-off will provide the technology to aid in delivering voice, data, fax, and other telescommuication services to users world-wide.
