Nearly 50 engineers from Goddard will share time and expertise with 7th and 8th grade students in Prince George’s, Montgomery, and Howard counties and Washington, D.C. This week is National Engineers Week - a week dedicated to helping increase public understanding of the profession - recognizing engineers for professional and community service with special awards, and cultivating interest in engineering, math, and science among students. This week, engineers will take engineering into local schools as part of the Discover “E” (E for engineering ) program, the largest outreach effort of its kind sponsored by the -more- -2- engineering profession. The program helps millions of students discover practical applications of math, science and technology through hands-on activities. In addition, engineers sponsor exhibitions at local shopping malls. There are hundreds of NASA’s engineers working at Goddard, developing hardware and software for astronomical telescopes and Earth observing satellites.
