NEWS MEDIA INVITED TO GODDARD SPACE FLIGHT CENTER’S FIRST EDUCATION SHOWCASE

NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center, Greenbelt, Md. will sponsor its first "Education Showcase" on Thursday, Oct.16 between 9 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. to showcase Goddard’s education programs, as well as to provide an opportunity for employees and local educators to become familiar with Goddard’s outreach activities.

The showcase will be open to news media, who will have an opportunity to view educational materials available through GSFC for scientific and technological educational purposes. Such materials will include video/Internet/CD-ROMs data, classroom activities, lesson plans and hands-on education activities.

Eleven seminars, 75 exhibits, and one hourly workshop will be on the agenda for the day.

SCHEDULE OF EVENTS:

• Welcome by Center Director, Joe Rothenberg at 9 a.m. in Building 3 auditorium.

• Showcase Overview by Dr. Robert Gabrys, Chief, Goddard Education

  Office at 9:15 a.m. in Building 3 auditorium.

• Special Presentation by Arlene Ackerman, Chief Academic Officer, Washington, D.C. at 9:30 a.m. in Building 3 auditorium.

• Special Presentation by Dr. Neil Tyson, Director, Hayden Planetarium, New York, at 10:30 a.m. in Building 3 auditorium.

• Exhibits and workshops open from 10:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
