GODDARD CELEBRATES COMMUNITY DAY

The public is invited to NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center in Greenbelt, Md. to celebrate its fall Community Day on Sunday, Sept. 27 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Visitor Center.

Special attractions throughout the day include:

* Earth and Space science and technology key speakers at 10:30 a.m. 12:30 p.m. and 2 p.m. in Building 3 auditorium.

* Goddard Jeopardy games at 10 a.m. and 1 p.m., Visitor Center tent.

* NASA trivia games throughout the day.

* NASA Projects Showcase at 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. in Building 8 auditorium.

* Living in Space presentations at Noon and 2:15 p.m., Visitor Center Auditorium.

* "NASA Through the Years" video (check with Visitor Center staff for times).

* Prince George’s County’s inflatable Starlab.

* Control line model rocket demonstrations at 11:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. at rear of Visitor Center.

* Earth Science Gallery demonstrations and activities.

* Tours of Goddard at 10:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m.

Special attractions just for kids include:

* A children’s activity tent featuring space related science activities at 10 a.m. and 3 p.m.

The Goddard Visitor Center is located on Explorer Road near the intersection of Soil Conservation and Greenbelt Roads in Greenbelt. The Visitor Center is

accessible from the Capital Beltway (Rt. 495) or the Baltimore-Washington Parkway (Rt. 295). Bus transportation is also available from the New Carrolton and Greenbelt Metro stations on the T-15, T-16 or T-17 buses. Ample free parking is available at the Visitor Center.

The Goddard Visitor Center is open daily from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Public tours for groups of 15 or less are available Mondays through Saturdays at 11:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. Reservations are not required; however, events may be restricted to a first come, first served basis. All tours and associated activities are FREE and open to the public.
